Paragon Label didn’t jump on the green band wagon -
we helped build it.

We’ve always been pioneers and before it became a big deal, we took the initiative and became the first printing plant in Sonoma County to be certified green.

For more than a decade we’ve been recycling 100% of our pressure-sensitive paper and waste matrix. Going beyond what is required, we have prevented more than 5,000,000 pounds of paper waste going into landfills and have filtered and cleaned more than one million gallons of waste water.

Recycling all office waste, purchasing green energy, working with our suppliers to offer earth-friendly materials are just a few of our environmental practices. Our electricity use has gone from 958,000 KWH in 2008 to 572,000 KWH in 2011 – a 67% reduction; water usage has decreased from 1,790,000 gallons in 2008 to 251,000 gallons in 2011 – a reduction of 469%. Our electric lights are motion-sensitive, all flush values are low-flow and on our factory tours, we teach visitors how and why we recycle.

Paragon Label has won many prestigious awards and accolades for environmental achievements and as a family-owned company; we are working together to innovate and practice new ways to conserve.

If being earth friendly is part of your company’s mission, we are happy to help you reach your own sustainable goals. We believe that by everyone working together, we can make a difference for the next generation.

Paragon Label has been committed to printing the highest quality product in the most sustainable manner possible for more than a decade. Here are some of the ways we honor that commitment:

  • All air compressors were replaced with energy-saving, variable speed compressors

  • Factory and restrooms lighting was changed from metal halide lighting to sensor activated fluorescent for energy efficiency

  • All flush valves in restrooms were replaced with low flush valves and all faucet aerators replaced with low flow 0.5% aerators; recycling receptacles for employees and visitors are conveniently placed inside and outside the building

  • 100% of our waste substrate (set-up stock, the matrix and unusable labels) is recycled, preventing more than 185 tons of waste going into landfills each year

  • With one of our environmental partners, Green Flash, we are pioneering a new way to recycle materials that previously were extremely difficult to process and break down. As other printers hear about this practice, they are getting on board as well, making this a genuine community effort to stay green

  • Any customer, large or small, can return the waste liner to Paragon so it can be recycled at no charge to them

  • 72,000 gallons of water per year is treated in our in-house facility resulting in water that is cleaner than mandated by law

  • Our film and plate-making process was replaced with a digital system eliminating approximately 2,000 lbs. of hazardous waste

  • Our Air Quality permit allots us 13,558 lbs. of VOC emissions a year; however in 2011, we only emitted 1,631 lbs. of VOC’s

  • A Green Team was formed in early 2010 and an expert in sustainable practices was brought in to advise and guide our team

  • We strongly believe in sustainable partnerships to promote our mutual vision. Presently our environmental partners include PG&E, Safety -Kleen, Hewitt Packard, Green Flash and others

Paragon Label continues to reduce and/or recycle waste. The following figures are from 2008 to 2012:

  • Ink Waste Stream 2,680 down to 1,200 lbs.

  • UV Waste Stream 1,600 down to 400 lbs.

  • Cylosol Waste Stream 1,560 down to 0 lbs. (completely eliminated when we switched from analog to digital plates)

  • Photo Waste Stream 1,215 down to 0 lbs. (completely eliminated when we switched from analog to digital plates)

  • Digital Ink Canisters Recycled

  • Electricity usage has gone from 958,000 KWH (2008) to 572,000 KWH (2011) – a 67% reduction

  • Water usage has decreased from 1,790,000 gallons (2008) to 251,000 gallons (2011) – a 469% reduction

  • Our ink and UV waste stream is shipped to Safety-Kleen, a local recycling operation, where it is blended with similar waste to produce a high quality fuel. This fuel is delivered to a cement kiln factory and is used to fire the kilns that make cement. This fuel, which burns at 2,900 degrees F, is used in place of the 40,000 tons of coal that it would normally require (each day) to produce the same cement. This is the only EPA approved method of recycling this type of waste and the air discharged on these kilns is 99.999% pure and is strictly monitored to maintain that purity.

  • We ship all used digital ink canisters back to the Hewlett Packard plant (which they generously fund so there is no cost to us for this service) and these empty canisters are then recycled in an environmentally sensitive manner

What our customers
are saying:

“I can’t say enough good things about Paragon. We’re a small brand and yet they give us incredible personal attention, accommodate us when we have a rush order, and always deliver beautiful quality. On top of that they are just damn nice people and a plea-sure to deal with.

Moreover, their production practices are environmentally sound. I love these guys. On a rating scale of 1 to 4, they get a 5. My favorite supplier by far.”
